Dobara Bell Chair, 2025
Mild steel, brass, copper, hammered, TIG welded and soldered
20’’ x 30’’ x 50’’

Dobara (again) is a reclining lounge chair (yantra - an object that facilitates sound) that allows the body to create repetitive sound again and again by facilitating ringing of bells (mantra - a repeated ritualistic sound), resulting in tantra- the marriage of mantra and yantra facilitated by the body. The seat pivots with body weight, back and forth, to allow the hand-hammered bells to jingle. Inspired by years of consistent conversation with my father, Dobara gives space for the user to tune out unwanted noise in their life and give in to the steady, gentle twinkling of bells. Backward, forward, rest. Backward, forward, rest. Backward, forward, rest.
